LASIK Eye Surgery
Before having LASIK, most of our patients couldn't imagine waking up in
the morning and seeing the alarm clock without glasses. They never dreamed
they'd be able to drive a car, watch a movie or enjoy sports such as
swimming and skiing without contact lenses. Since they were children, this
dependence on glasses and contacts has shaped their lives, memories and
the way they felt about themselves.
Now, these same patients are pursuing life with new confidence, enthusiasm
and ease thanks to LASIK. This remarkable procedure takes only a few
minutes to perform, but can have a tremendous impact on your life.
Are you a Candidate?
In most cases, LASIK can treat the most severe degrees of nearsightedness,
farsightedness and astigmatism. Candidates must have realistic
expectations about their results- LASIK is not right for everyone. That's
why All Laser Lasik Eye Surgery at Florida Eye Centers doctors must be
prudent when determining if you are a candidate.
To be a potential candidate for LASIK you must be at least 18 years old,
in good general health, and have good eye health with no diseases such as
cataracts or glaucoma. Only an in-depth examination of your eyes, your
individual case, your expectations and your lifestyle by an experienced,
licensed optometrist or ophthalmologist can determine if you are a
candidate.
All Laser LASIK Eye Surgery ... Could Be
the LASIK Advancement You’ve Been Waiting For…
Since the laser vision correction procedure, LASIK, first approved in
1999, it has been regarded as a safe and successful method of laser vision
correction. Even so, you’re not alone if you feel hesitant to move forward
with laser vision correction LASIK surgery, wondering what future
advancements may hold. Some of our over 70 TLC Laser Eye Center locations
now offer LASIK surgery using the IntraLase Method™—also referred to as,
Bladeless LASIK, all-laser LASIK or IntraLASIK™—and may be the very
advancement you’ve been waiting for.
LASIK laser eye surgery may be elective, but good vision is not. We, at
TLC Laser Eye Centers, understand how valuable your sight is to you, and
we keep our sights set on providing safe and advanced technologies for our
patients. That is why Bladeless LASIK using the IntraLase® laser is a
technology that is at our TLC Laser Eye centers across North America*.
How does the Bladeless LASIK improve the laser vision correction LASIK
procedure?
The Bladeless LASIK procedure is a 100% blade-free, LASIK approach to
creating a corneal flap, the thin layer of tissue the surgeon folds back
to expose the part of the eye that is reshaped during the laser vision
correction LASIK procedure. With the Bladeless LASIK procedure, LASIK is
not only 100% blade-free.
Prior to the Bladeless LASIK procedure, doctors created corneal flaps with
an instrument called a microkeratome. This method is still a well practice
option and done for both the LASIK and Custom LASIK procedures, both
offered at TLC Laser EYE Centers.
The Bladeless LASIK procedure eliminates the need for a TLC Laser Eye
Center certified Surgeon to use a microkeratome. Instead, they make the
flap by using a computer-guided IntraLase® laser. This laser delivers
rapid pulses of light, a quadrillionth of a second each, to a
pre-programmed depth and position within your cornea. Each pulse forms a
microscopic bubble. As the IntraLase laser moves back and forth across
your eye, the bubbles connect to form a corneal flap. Just prior to LASIK
surgery, the doctor gently lifts the flap where these bubbles have created
a smooth surface.
Why Bladeless LASIK?
LASIK laser vision correction surgery has advanced steadily over the
years; the technology used to measure your visual error prior to surgery
has become more powerful and corrections can be optimized to your needs.
Until the Bladeless LASIK procedure, Using the IntraLase laser, however,
the creation of the corneal flap was the one step that lacked the
technological sophistication of the rest of the LASIK procedure.
In addition, if you were not eligible for LASIK surgery performed with a
microkeratome due to steep, flat, or thin corneas, you may now be a
candidate with the IntraLase Method. In fact, IntraLase training has
become part of the curriculum at most of the ophthalmic teaching
institutions and is rapidly being adopted by eye care practices around the
world.
IntraLase® is the most advanced technology for corneal flap creation
available today, and will give you greater confidence and assurance in
moving forward with laser vision correction.
